What's Tricky This Coming Week ???
With produce travelling from all corners of the globe there is always something you should stay away from.
This page is designed to ensure you don’t get caught out by listing something on your menu when supply is proving slightly tricky.
Fresh produce revolves around the climate so changes happen frequently, make sure you come back every week to find out what will be difficult during the coming week.
Tender Stem Broccoli
We have moved into UK crop tender stem but the heat we are all witnessing at the moment is so intense crop failure is on the horizon.
Supply from Kenya is also in a severe state so please be warned supply may be tight for a few weeks until it regnerates its vigour.UK Asparagus
Richard Morrits amazing northern asparagus crop has come to a close for another year. The UK asparagus season is very swift and only lasts for about 8 weeks blink and it's gone.
The crop is now left to bolt into shrubs around 6ft tall, they will very soon be laden with flowers as they build their energy stores before they fall asleep for the winter.Conference Pear
Stored fruit is starting to run dry and with high demand for the trusty Conference pear there is only one thing the growers can do to try and stem the flow of demand and which is increase the price.
Supply is still ok but prices are rising rapidly – if you are wanting an alternative pear the Packham pear or Honey scented Asian pears are here for you to get excited about.
Oranges
Severe hail storms over South Africa last week have severely damaged crops, just look at that picture of the fruits that got battered from huge frozen ice balls!!!
We won’t instantly see an issue but over the coming weeks there could be some disruption to supply/prices as the crop is starting to be picked and transported.Bramley Apples
Just like the Conference pear the demands on Bramley apples is high which is causing some concern as the stored fruit is starting to run dry.
We often forget but there is only one crop of UK Bramley apples which are picked in Autumn so at this time of year the fruit has been sat in store all this time.
Supply is still ok but prices are on the rise watch out.Green Beans **WATCH OUT**
The green bean world is in a severe state at the moment as supply is desperately short out of Kenya and Guatemala.
Deep heat has crippled growth followed by heavy rains which has made the perfect breeding ground for a bacterial infection which is literally causing severe crop failure!!!
Supply is very tight so please be warned
