What's Tricky This Coming Week ???

With produce travelling from all corners of the globe there is always something you should stay away from.

This page is designed to ensure you don’t get caught out by listing something on your menu when supply is proving slightly tricky.

Fresh produce revolves around the climate so changes happen frequently, make sure you come back every week to find out what will be difficult during the coming week.

    Red Chicory

The harvest of red chicory is extremely low and prices have tripled in price overnight as the Dutch Auction commands massive money for the privilege of using this easy option.

Red chicory is not grown on mass so a slight issue with the crop can cause spikes and availability issues please be warned.

    Severe Heat

You need to be aware that this radical heat spell is starting to cause damage to soft leaf and rapid growth summer crops but we are also concerned around late summer harvests such as carrots, potatoes, parsnips onions etc

These will most definitely be affected by this crazy dry spell we are witnessing, we could still be talking about the damaging effects of this heat in November!!

Please take a second to think about all thats in the land trying to grow as hot, hot, hot out there in the fields...

    Bramley Apple

As previously warned the Bramley apple season has come to a close early and there is the very limited amount of Bramley bobbing about the system which will soon be gone.

This leaves anyone wanting to use Bramley a bit of an issue as they won't be back until the new UK apple season lands. Granny Smith and sugar could be used but we also sell solid pack apple and apple sauce if required until their return

    Oranges

Severe hail storms over South Africa last week have severely damaged crops, just look at that picture of the fruits that got battered from huge frozen ice balls!!!

We won’t instantly see an issue but over the coming weeks there could be some disruption to supply/prices as the crop is starting to be picked and transported.

    Potatoes **Future Damage**

With the heat causing issues and immediate danger on softer summer crops we shouldn’t forget about crops desperately trying to grow.

The outlook for this year's potato crops are looking bleak as early lifting is showing signs of a lack of larger potatoes which are graded out for baking potatoes and premium chip.

If the rest of the UK crops once lifted are low in yield and do have smaller than average size differences the potato world for the next 12 months could be extremely troublesome.

    Little Gem

Prices are rising for the trusty little gem as crops in the UK are struggling due to lack of water and severe heat.

the grading of the heads will start to reduce in size as availabilty of the larger tight heads is becoming very difficult

Watch out as prices are on the rise

    Jersey Royal Potatoes

This has come a bit of a shock but the farmers in Jersey have decided to plough back into the land the leftover crops of Jersey royals due to heat issues.

This has brought the Jersey Royal season to a rapid close 4 weeks earlier than usual.

We will all have to wait now until 2019 to celebrate that unique early cropped potato flavour we all love.

    Lowna Dairy - Sad Times

For over a decade we have been supporting the amazing team at Lowna Dairy. Both Trisha & Tom have been true Delifresh ambassadors and produced some very unique and most outstanding cheeses such as the Lowna Crabley & Rowley log.

The time has come to close the doors and for them both to start and enjoy their retirement which is overdue and very well deserved. Both the Crabley & Rowley log will be discontinued very shortly so please be warned it will disappear.

We do have an alternative cheese producer in the pipeline who is just making their way through our onboarding procedure. But until successful please be aware that the cheese may come to a dramatic halt - Crabley curd can be subsituted for ribblesdale curd if required.
